Sociology vs. Psychology

Did you know 3.5 million people have a degree in psychology in the U.S.? Every year about 116,000 people graduate with a psychology degree, and over 35,000 graduate as a sociology major. Both are social science fields: what is the difference?

Sociology is the study of humans in societies, and psychology is the study of the human mind. Together, they help to explain the factors that influence human thought, emotion, behavior, norms, laws, and the greatest challenges that plague our collective wellbeing.
